Girls for Sale

A display in a San Francisco shopping center exhibited seven young girls with price tags attached to their bodies. The displays, element of a marketing campaign by the Functioning Group Against Human Trafficking, sought to highlight the issue of people trafficking and to increase awareness of the problem. The adverts featured the women’s ages, weight, height, and other measurements. They also included their countries of arrival and sexuality. In the process, the women’s reviews and the work of the performers were taken to light.

An set up called «Women for Sale» was created by Task Power upon Human Trafficking in Laxa, sweden, as part of a campaign to generate consumption of sexual expertise a offense. The unit installation was an interactive installation, which exhibited real women and their rates with all the facts they can provide: elevation, weight, and measurements. The goal was to increase awareness of this practice and to collect enough signatures to pressure the ministry to take action.

The women displayed in the installation were viewed in the store’s window with price tags and details of the height, fat, and other measurements. The prices with the women were submitted next for their photos, plus the price tags included their country of foundation. The unit installation aimed to raise awareness about the problem of human trafficking and to gather enough validations to make this a crime. In Israel, this has been a success in minimizing the demand designed for prostitutes.
